Flush, panel, veneered, solid — the door aisle is full of jargon. This guide explains the main wooden door types and which suits each room in a Bangladeshi home.
A door is the one piece of joinery you touch every single day, so it pays to choose well. In Bangladesh, the right door also has to cope with humidity, heat and regular use without warping or sticking. Here is a plain-language guide to the main types of wooden doors and where each one fits.
Flush doors
A flush door has a flat, smooth surface built over an internal frame, usually finished with a veneer or laminate. It is the most popular choice for interior doors in modern homes: clean-looking, affordable, and light enough for everyday rooms. A veneered flush door gives you the warmth of real wood grain at a sensible price, which is why it dominates bedrooms and internal doorways.
Panel doors
Panel doors are built from a frame with inset panels, giving them a more traditional, detailed look. They suit homes going for a classic aesthetic and work well as feature doors. Because of the joinery involved, they typically sit above flush doors on price.
Solid wooden doors
Solid doors are the premium tier — heavier, more robust, and ideal for main entrances where security and presence matter. They cost more and weigh more, so they are best reserved for front doors and key rooms rather than every internal doorway.
Veneer vs laminate finish
Whichever construction you choose, the finish decides the look. A natural wood veneer — teak, oak and similar — shows real grain and can be polished to a rich tone. Laminate is more uniform and hard-wearing. For most Bangladeshi homes, a veneered flush door strikes the best balance of appearance, durability and value.
Matching doors to rooms
A quick shortlist to plan your home:
- Main entrance — solid wooden or heavy veneered door for strength and presence.
- Bedrooms and living rooms — veneered flush doors for warmth at a fair price.
- Bathrooms and kitchens — doors built with moisture-resistant cores to handle humidity.
- Offices and institutions — plain veneered flush doors for a clean, consistent finish.
